CrossFit Games 2021 will be taking place in a few weeks and many CrossFit Games participants are very excited. There will be women's competitions in addition to the regular men's and women's competitions. We have all heard about the women's competition, the Pegboard contest, the Cutting system, and Reebok's equipment, but do you know what to expect? Continue reading to find out! Women are competing

The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the first Games for women, and the women's side hoped to complete the podium.

The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders from Australia, who placed second in Australia and 11th globally in 2020 are other contenders. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. The Games added it to their summer Olympic program, along with double-unders (dumbbell overhead squats) and pegboard. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games is a training program that focuses on 10 general fitness skills. These include strength, flexibility, power and speed as well as cardiovascular endurance. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.


Cutting system

CrossFit Games will use a cutting system again for individual competitions. While it's not as extreme or drastic as in previous Games, this year is very different. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? The scoring table used in the 2019 games was nearly identical to the one used in 2021, so it's likely that this will continue to be the case.

This year's CrossFit Games field includes 236 athletes. It is the largest ever. Major cuts are made at the six initial events. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. From there, the top 20 athletes compete in the remaining six events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.

Reebok equipment

Reebok has announced new sports shoes, clothing, and other equipment for the CrossFit Games. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Reebok describes this shoe as the "shoe of fitness", but it actually feels more like an ordinary training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar, which promotes durability, breathability, and strength, is the shoe's upper. The shoes are responsive thanks to the firm midsole and RopePro technology.

Reebok's contract with CrossFit will end at the end of 2020, and the Games will be without a title sponsor. Reebok sponsored the Games for more a decade. Now, it is obvious that the company will lessen its involvement. Reebok will no longer sponsor the Games' prize money, but it will continue to manufacture all the athletic apparel and equipment used by athletes, including the Reebok gear. However, Reebok CrossFit Games will no longer be called the company.

What is the difference between Aerobic Fitness and Anaerobic Fitness?

VO2 Max Test

VO2max is the maximum oxygen (O2) that your body can use while exercising. This test measures the amount O2 that the body can use when exercising.

This test can measure your cardiovascular fitness accurately. It requires expensive equipment and highly-trained professionals to administer.

Step Tests

Step tests are simple yet effective methods of measuring cardiovascular fitness. You will be asked to walk, jog or run for a specific time on a track. This is based on your age or weight.

These tests are inexpensive, easy to conduct, and can be done almost anywhere. You could, for instance, run on a treadmill for two minutes, rest for one minute, and then go back to the starting point for 20 minutes. Throughout the entire session, your heartbeat should stay within a set range.

This method is known as the "Bruce Protocol". Bruce, himself a runner developed this protocol when he realized his heart rate didn't rise when he ran long distances.
